Clinton Cemetery

The Clinton Cemetery is located on Wilson Place near Brighton Beach Road in the community of Clinton at the southern end of Whidbey Island. It is directly behind Saint Peter’s Lutheran Church. The cemetery was established in 1904 after Chris and Martha Berg donated one and a half acres to the church. One acre was used for the cemetery and one half acre for a new church building. The cemetery was later turned over to the community and the Clinton Cemetery Association was formed.

We are indebted to two previous surveys of this cemetery which we had at our disposal. One was done in 1972 by Verda Thometz and Ernest & Clara Matthias of Marysville, found at the Seattle Public Library, and the other done by Clara Vandegrift for the NSDAR, Marcus Whitman Chapter, in 1994. We have used these lists as guides, verified names and dates, made corrections as necessary, and added more recent burials.
