Membership
Your membership in the Genealogical Society of South
Whidbey Island supports education, furthers genealogical research and
promotes interest in family history and the preservation of records.
Our focus is on general genealogy rather than on any geographic area;
our members' research interests extend far beyond Whidbey Island.
Joining GSSWI gives members access to education and presentations of
general genealogical interest as well as the ability to interact with
other genealogists.
Benefits of membership:
- our monthly newsletter with interesting articles and
information on genealogical standards and resources as well as
suggestions for genealogical software and organization techniques
- use of our library, including video recordings of
past programs
- a packet with information on the society and help on
beginning your genealogy research
- our education program at two levels: 1) beginning in
which you can learn the basics of how to conduct genealogical research
or 2) intermediate in which you can extend and hone your skills
- our computer users classes covering both basic
computing and the Legacy software program
- interaction with other members who have genealogical
expertise and those from our databases who are researching the same
areas
- invitations to monthly field trips to local sites of
genealogical interest
- discounts on sales of certain society items
- periodic reminders of meetings and events sent to
your email address
Our dues are currently $15 for a single member or $25
for a household membership — two or more people living at the same
address. Email addresses or other personal information about members
are never shared with outside organizations without a member's
permission.
New or Renewing Membership
Membership dues are payable September 1st each year, for
the fiscal year ending August 31st the next year. Please:
- Bring cash or a check to the next meeting,
- Complete and print a Membership
Form and send it by US Mail with a check
payable to GSSWI, or
- Use the convenience of PayPal to sign-up and pay
online with your Visa, MC, Visa, AE, JCB Discovery, or Paypal "plastic".

Volunteer
Volunteers are needed in several aspects of the
organization to help it function. Our society is nothing without its
members and the many volunteers that currently contribute to our
efforts. Many people with various skills and abilities can make a
difference in the success of our organization.
